The following prototype is a Time Trial of a standard track for an arcade karting game, that I'm currently developping solo using Unity. 

It is heavily inspired by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and I'm intending to perfect the driving sensations before starting to work on the rest of the features. I am looking for feedback on how driving feel at the moment (adding gamefeel is the next step). This said,  any feedback on any aspect of the prototype is greatly appreciated and would help tremendously.

Controller :


Keyboard :

  • ZQSD for steering, 
  • Space for Accleration,
  • Up Arrow Key to Jump and iniate Drift

Use R to Restart the game.

Soft-Drifing: Charge your turbos faster by steering inwards during a drift.

Passing the first gate will trigger the start of the timer. You then have to complete the track by going through all gates (just follow the road). The timer will reset once your pass the first gate again but your last and best time will be visible in the upper-right corner.

You may find the executable version below if you have performance issues. All assets and  code are home-made , using Unity and Blender. The control scheme image was realised with PadCrafter. There is no sound yet.

BugFix:

-Fixed Restarting with R crashing time tracking.

New Feature:

-Added SoftDrifting: Charging turbos while drifting is now much faster when steering inwards during the drift (x2,5)

-Reduced Turbo Charging Time outside of soft-drifting. -Added some ugly smoke coming out of the exhaust that will get prettier at some point I promise.
